On Monday, the People’s Democratic Party criticized claims by Information and Culture Minister Lai Mohammed that the opposition party was trying to misrepresent the achievements of President Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retired ), claiming that the country had only recorded regression. under the regime.
The former ruling party listed Buhari’s achievements to include corruption, high unemployment rate, weakened currency, external debt of N33 trillion, among others.
The punch previously reported that the minister alleged that the PDP’s desperation to return to power in 2023 was responsible for its plan to “sabotage” the presidential regime.
He noted that the main opposition party’s plan was to overheat the political regime, distort Buhari’s achievements and misinform Nigerians.
“As you know, the people on the other side have been doing everything lately to overheat the regime, distort the achievements of our administration and spread misinformation,” Mohammed said during a briefing to reporters in Abuja on Monday. .
But responding to Mohammed’s allegation on Monday evening, PDP spokesperson Hon. Debo Ologunagba, described the minister’s presser “as another anthology of lies, false and false claims of performance by the failed and rudderless administration of the All Progressives Congress”.
In a statement titled “Press Conference by Lai Mohammed, Another Anthology of APC-PDP Lies”, Ologunagba alleged that figures and completed projects produced by the minister while Buhari’s achievements were false.
The statement reads in part: “It is ridiculous and insensitive that the APC government has taken to the media to list non-existent roads, bridges, agricultural and health projects as achievements. More pathetic is the APC’s attempt to claim credit for development projects initiated and implemented by successive PDP administrations, especially in our railways, aviation, agriculture, health , education, telecommunications, banking and manufacturing, among others.
“It is laughable that the APC government is also claiming credit for critical projects in various parts of the country that are funded by resources mobilized by DPP administrations as part of counterpart funding from international partners and agencies.
“The only legitimate achievements of the APC government include its corruption record (second most corrupt in West Africa and 154 out of 180 on the Global Corruption Index), an unemployment rate above 33%, a weakened currency at over 500 naira to the dollar, 33 trillion foreign naira in debt and still counting and the siphoning of over 16 trillion naira by APC executives.
“The PDP warns the APC to note that its continued arrogance in failure confronts and daily reminds Nigerians of the statement made by one of its founding members, the late Prince Tony Momoh in April 2016 and the consequences are best imagined” .
